Fixed and Focused: A Healthy Mindset

‘Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus’

Philippians 2:5

A verse in the book of Philippians that gives us the definitive solution towards having a healthy mindset. But before we can obtain the mind of Christ, it makes one question what the mind of Jesus even looks like and the question of can we actually have the same mind as the All-Knowing God may arise too.

“For My thoughts are not your thoughts,

Nor are your ways My ways,” says the Lord.

Isaiah 55:8

While we may not fully comprehend and have the ability to have the full mind of Christ as His thoughts and ways are far above ours, we have a good chance of experiencing parts, which can enable our minds to be at peace.

You will keep him in perfect peace,

Whose mind is stayed on You,

Because he trusts in You.

Isaiah 26:3

When we look at the life of Christ, we can undoubtedly say He went through a lot both physically and mentally yet, overcame them all! So I think it can be said with confidence, that the mind of Christ is one that is focused on the will of God and not tossed to and fro according to circumstances. And the circumstances Christ went through were no easy feat. He came to Earth knowing that His sole purpose was to die for all of mankind with prior knowledge of the world hating Him too. He was not welcomed amongst His community and was falsely accused. In all of this, and even though He did experience some low moments, ultimately He remained focused. There isn't anything Christ cannot empathise with us as His creation, but He paved the way and set the example of being steadfast and immovable in the face of troubles and temptations from the devil himself, and we are encouraged to adopt this mindset.

This world is always fighting for our attention through multiple channels such as music, social media our careers and personal life goals, yet, in all of this, we are emplored to not conform to worldly standards but be transformed by the renewing of our mind. This means rejecting anything contrary to the word of God and staying focused on the plan and purpose God has for your life.

‘And do not be conformed to this world,

but be transformed by the renewing of your mind,

that you may prove what is that good

and acceptable and perfect will of God’

Romans 12:2

One of the devil's objections is to preoccupy your mind with thoughts that are not in line with God's word. Once he does that, perceptions and attitudes towards many things including faith begin to shift. If you are someone that tends to think negatively about yourself or situations faced, negative things are what will be produced.

‘For as he thinks in his heart, so is he.’

Proverbs 23:7

Because of the fact spoken in this verse, the Bible encourages us to concentrate on:

‘whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.’

Philippians 4:8

What this scripture is telling us, is that despite what is happening in our environment, or to us, we should not let our minds think any other way than positive.

Whenever things got a bit tough or Jesus felt weary, we saw that He went to spend time with God through prayer, this is a very important aspect of Christian living. Prayer is our time to have a conversation with God but also have Him communicate back to us. Just like the word of God, prayer renews, equips and empowers us.

Jesus mindset was solely fixed on one thing and one thing only and that was purpose; So even when death was waiting to embrace Him, He prayed for Gods will alone to be done ( Luke 22:41).

As we navigate through this life, lets purpose in our hearts and minds to not be weighed

down. Instead, let us constantly strive to be like Jesus. Minds focused and determined to

complete whatever assignment that God has given to us. It won't always be easy but with the right mindset, we will surely reach that goal.
